Taylor Custom Grand Auditorium NAMM Catch #2, Sinker Redwood/Honduran Rosewood

Taylor Custom Grand Auditorium NAMM Catch #2, Sinker Redwood/Honduran Rosewood

Taylor had a big NAMM 2024, unveiling a handful of new C14ce models, including this Catch #2 that boasts a sinker redwood top and Honduran rosewood back and sides. This guitar is an embodiment of Taylor's constant boundary pushing in the world of acoustic instruments.

This Taylor Custom Catch #2 features a mid-sized body cut to a Grand Auditorium shape, with a single Venetian cutaway. The top of the guitar is made from sinker redwood, a tonewood that's been submerged in water for year before being recovered and ultimately made into this guitar. This unique quality makes for a wood that has a one-of-a-kind appearance, and unique tonal qualities to match. The sinker redwood also contrasts its counterpart Honduran rosewood beautifully, as the colors of these two woods share some similarities but are highlighted differently through their grain patterns. There is no pickguard on this instrument, but a Split Diamond rosette made of Cocobolo and rosewood occupies the area around the sound hole.

The neck of this Taylor is carved from Neotropical mahogany, and is topped with a fingerboard made of West African Crelicam ebony. The fingerboard is topped with Taylor's beautiful Ocean Vine inlay, made from Cocobolo and boxwood, and atop the neck, the headstock boasts a veneer made of ebony that matches the fingerboard, and a Gotoh 510 Antique Gold tuning machine housing. The tuning buttons themselves, are made of Cocobolo, a unique choice that acts as a highlight of this guitar.

Equipped with Taylor's ES-2 electronics, this guitar's tone is accurately recreated and controlled in live settings, with Volume, Treble, and Bass knobs. The guitar's Shaded Edgeburst finish sets it apart further, aesthetically, in tandem with small details, such as its bone bridge pins, and boxwood peghead logos.
