PRS Silver Sky Electric Guitar, Frost w/ Premium Gig Bag
Born from the long collaboration between John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, the PRS Silver Sky refines mid-sixties single-coil DNA into a modern workhorse that stays in tune, intonates cleanly, and keeps noise under control. It feels broken in on day one without the usual vintage maintenance rituals.
An alder body provides a neutral, balanced platform that stays honest through clean amps and pedal stacks. The PRS steel tremolo is set flush in neutral so travel goes down in pitch only, which increases contact with the top and makes the guitar acoustically louder. That extra acoustic output feeds the pickups a stronger signal and helps preserve attack. Locking vintage-style tuners pair with the inverted PRS headstock to keep string length behind the nut consistent and tuning stability predictable.
The neck is maple and the fingerboard is rosewood. Scale length is 25.5 inches for snap and piano-like low strings. The 7.25-inch radius invites chord work and vibrato that sit naturally under the hand. The 635JM-R carve has rounded shoulders that feel supportive instead of slabby on long sessions. A bone nut and PRS double action truss rod, accessible from the headstock face, keep setup adjustments straightforward.
Electronics are a calibrated 635JM single-coil set. Voicing is round and full through the mids with a high end that stays musical rather than spiky. Positions two and four deliver the expected phase detail without the glassy sting that can fatigue the ear. The control layout is traditional. Master volume, two tone controls, and a five-way blade keep decisions fast and familiar.
Finished here in Frost and shipped in a premium gig bag, the Silver Sky behaves like a carefully serviced mid-sixties instrument that never needed a refret or a neck shim. If the brief is bell tone, elastic response, and modern reliability, this model hits the target cleanly.
