Martin Limited Edition D-19 190th Anniversary Acoustic Guitar with Hardshell Case

Martin Limited Edition D-19 190th Anniversary Acoustic Guitar with Hardshell Case

Martin Guitar's Limited Edition D-19 190th Anniversary commemorates a company milestone as well as reintroduces a design from the past that commemorated an American milestone many years later.

So how does this guitar cross paths of two cultural significances?

November 6, 2023 is one hundred and ninety years since Christian Martin the first arrived in America from his native Germany, settling at 196 Hudson Street in New York City seeking new opportunity. After working as an apprentice and shop foreman under Austrian luthier Johann Stauffer, Martin Sr. set up his own storefront at this New York City location, signifying the beginning of what we know today as CF Martin and Company.

Fast forward many years later to 1976, the United States of America's bicentennial year. Martin Guitar, now long since established in Pennsylvania, introduces the D-19 model in celebration of America's 200th birthday. This guitar was noted for its stained Sitka spruce top - perhaps appearing as mahogany at first glance.

In 2023, to celebrate the 190th anniversary of Martin Sr's arrival to the new world with his family, the D-19 is reintroduced in limited numbers. White the D-19 of 1976 featured a Sitka spruce top, this limited edition 2023 model receives a stained Adirondack spruce top, now with the addition of a Mimaki printed finish to achieve the look of figured mahogany.

Key build features of this Limited Edition D-19 include forward shifted scalloped X bracing, genuine mahogany back and sides construction, high performance neck taper, Guatemalan rosewood fingerboard, nickel open gear tuners, Old Style 18 fingerboard inlay pattern, and hardshell case. Inside the guitar, the D-19 190th Anniversary features a label signed by Christian Martin IV.
