Having spent over a year and a half in development, the D18 Modern Deluxe is loaded with custom-shop inspired modern features, only furthering the sonic excellence and playability of their flagship guitar.
The D18 Modern Deluxe begins with a Sitka Spruce Top with Martin's VTS (Vintage Tone System) treatment process. This process does to the look and sound of a new top as what many years of natural aging would do. This is what players refer to as a "broken in" guitar. The VTS Sitka top is reinforced via forward shifted scalloped Adirondack spruce "X" bracing.
The Modern Deluxe D18's neck receives a Vintage Deluxe profile with High Performance Taper, satin finish, and Ebony fingerboard. Featured exclusively on the Modern Deluxe fretboard is what appears to be a gold fretwire, but is in fact a nickel/copper alloy tested stronger than a standard Martin fret. The copper alloy adds a gold hue, which is a perfect match to its gold Waverly open gear tuners.
