Gretsch G6134TG-58 Limited 1958 Custom Penguin Electric Guitar w/ Bigsby, Emerald Night
A classic, barn-burnin' bird that's anything but flightless, the Gretsch Limited 1958 Custom Penguin is the head of the flock in a deep Emerald Night finish! Gretsch's iconic, bold, and dressed-up solidbody, the Penguin, struts its stuff on this limited-edition model with all the dynamic electronics and classy appointments needed to make itself known. We all could use a fine, feathered friend, after all.
This limited edition G6134TG-58 touts enormous style and sound for such a short-statured bird. Kicking everything off, this limited Gretsch Penguin starts with a mahogany body and an arched maple top. This model presents a seamless single-cut shape with Gretsch's Vintage Chambering process under the hood. Meant to increase resonance and lower overall weight, Gretsch's chambering techniques prove warmly welcomed onboard this Penguin. Across the body, a vintage-style nitrocellulose gloss lacquer finish wraps this bird up nicely like a tuxedo. A deep, dark, dazzling Emerald Night color makes for an exceptionally classy addition.
From here, this Penguin flaps its wings with a set mahogany neck in a Gretsch Standard "U" profile. Filling the hand with a vintage-style feel, this neck is matched with a rich twelve-inch ebony fingerboard. This ebony board lines up with twenty-two Medium Jumbo frets and Mother of Pearl Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays for a cool, understated look and a seamless fretting feel on the fingers. Luminlay side dots appear along the fingerboard's side for an added visual element.
Sonically, this Penguin cheers and chirps through two TV Jones Ray Butts Ful-Fidelity humbucking pickups. Onboard, these two lovingly retro humbuckers bark with plenty of humbucker warmth and bite for an audible experience that breaks the mold. Extended tonal and volume controls present a mixing experience that is deep and expressive without becoming unintuitive or uninspiring.
These two powerful humbuckers are backed up by a robust hardware setup with plenty of charm of its own. Firstly, the gold sparkle-laden headstock is lined with gold-finished Grover Imperial tuning machines and a bone nut for seamless stringing and solid intonation. Next, a Space Control bridge lands at the scale's opposite end with a pinned ebony base. Finally, one of the centerpieces of the whole guitar appears as a Bigsby B3GP String-Thru Vibrato tailpiece. This classic Bigsby piece introduces the kinds of deep, expressive vibrato pitch bends in playing for a guitar full of charm. A Gretsch hardshell case travels with this 1958 Custom Penguin.
This limited Gretsch Penguin? Yeah, we'll take it. Put it on our bill.
