Gibson SG Standard '61 Faded Electric Guitar, Rosewood Fingerboard, Faded Vintage Cherry

Gibson SG Standard '61 Faded Electric Guitar, Rosewood Fingerboard, Faded Vintage Cherry

The Gibson SG Standard '61 Faded brings all its classic 1961 inspired appointments with a smooth satin finish. Originally released in 1961 to replace the single cutaway Les Paul model, the SG, short for "solid guitar" has acquired icon status throughout the years with its signature look and artist associations.

Since the SG's inception, its signature defining feature has always been a double-cutaway contoured mahogany body with twin horns. True to its vintage counter part, the guitar receives a 5-ply teardrop pickguard rather than a "batwing" guard found on later year examples. The body is loaded with a set of 60s Burstbucker humbucking pickups. Built with historically accurate unbalanced coils and Alnico V magnets to deliver vintage-inspired PAF tones with clarity.

For its neck, the mahogany is carved to a SlimTaper profile and is topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard. Its fingerboard features a 12-inch radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and acrylic trapezoid inlays. With its set neck design and double cut-away design, the guitar offers impressive accessibility to the upper register. The body and neck are finished in faded nitrocellulose lacquer that delivers a broken-in appearance and smooth feel, enhancing playability.

Quality components keep the SG playing its best. Inside the control cavity, the potentiometers are hand-wired with orange drop capacitors and are decorated with black top hat knobs with silver reflectors. Strings are loaded through the nickel plated stopbar tailpiece and ABR-1 tune-o-matic bridge before being strung to pitch with clasisic vintage deluxe tuning machines with keystone buttons. The signature open-book headstock displays the Gibson logo and the signature SG crown inlay.

Complete with a hardshell case for storage and travel, the SG Standard '61 Faded is ready to rock and roll.
