Gibson LG-2 '50s Original Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Natural

Gibson LG-2 '50s Original Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Natural

Reminiscing of the Banner Year of 1942, we’re met with the Gibson LG-2 '50s Original in a fresh natural finish! Among the brand's most celebrated small-bodies, the LG-2 rises to the occasion with this American-made revival with plenty of fresh features along the way. Straight from the '50s with plenty to show, this LG-2 makes big statements, even with such a small footprint.

In 1942, Gibson launched a number of massively influential acoustic models. From the J-45 to the Southern Jumbo, 1942 set sail for many of the brand's flagship guitars of the time. Among them, the successor to the L-00, was the LG-2. This mini marvel went on to have a successful run of its own, culminating in its next decade's models becoming coveted collector's items, even to this day. Today's LG-2 '50s Original takes a refreshed but honest look at these 1950s models for an exhilarating new acoustic.

Taking us back, the LG-2 '50s Original features a small-bodied LG-2 shape brought together by solid Sitka spruce and solid mahogany. This iconic combo of tonewoods balances the woodiness and richness of mahogany with the top-end chirp of Sitka spruce for an indispensable sound. Traditional scalloped X-Bracing lines the top for enhanced projection and articulation while three-ply top and single-ply back binding wraps its edges for an added geometric accent.

Meeting the body, the LG-2 '50s Original introduces a mahogany neck with compound dovetail joint assembly using hot hide glue adhesive. The mahogany assumes a Rounded profile as it reaches from lower to higher registers. From there, an unbound rosewood fingerboard lands with twenty frets and Mother of Pearl dot inlays for a smooth, simple feel on the fingers. This playing experience matches comfort across the palm with precision on the fingertips for a musical experience boundlessly inspirational.

These considerations for playability are backed by a reliable set of hardware specifications. At either end of the scale, a bone saddle and bone nut appear for solid connections from string to body. Past the bone nut, the LG-2 '50s Original's headstock is met with Grover Strap tuning machines with cream buttons. Making quick work of stringing and tuning, these tuners or balanced out by a rosewood bridge in a sloped rectangle shape with TUSQ bridge pins. Onboard, L.R. Baggs VTC electronics come built in with soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls for bringing its sweet sounds anywhere and everywhere. This Gibson LG-2 '50s Original travels with an included hardshell case.

Raising the banner high, the LG-2 '50s Original is an icon in its time, our time, or any other time, for that matter!
