Gibson Firebird Platypus Electric Guitar, Tobacco Sunburst

Gibson Firebird Platypus Electric Guitar, Tobacco Sunburst

There's a certain history and a certain bravado that goes into the Gibson Firebird Platypus. Hearkening back to one of the many iterations original Firebirds were treated to back in the mid '60s, today's Gibson Firebird Platypus celebrates a number of small yet impactful decisions that made the model its own.

Early 1965 brought a series of significant transitions that molded the Gibson Firebird into new and exciting forms. The Gibson Firebird Platypus celebrates the uniqueness of such forms, though let's start at the beginning. This Gibson Firebird Platypus begins with an offset mahogany body. Capturing that bold, enduring spirit of Firebird models, the body of the Firebird Platypus is eye-catching and simply cannot be ignored.

This body is matched with a glued-in set neck that gives the appearance of a traditional, neck-through Reverse Firebird body. Playing with classic Gibson speed and excitement, the neck profile on this Firebird takes a SlimTaper shape for a streamlined feel from the highest to lowest registers. From here, the neck is paired with a rosewood fingerboard bearing twenty-two frets with acrylic trapezoid inlays, a Graph Tech nut, and single-ply binding. There's a slick runway for your fastest riffage here, if you're looking for it.

Alongside the playability features of this Gibson, the Firebird Platypus comes together with its definitive feature – the flat "non-reverse" headstock. This headstock throws it all back to original Firebird Platypus models with a flatter angle (resembling a platypus beak) that ensures lesser pull on the string and less friction among the string, tuner, and nut. Speaking of tuners, the Firebird Platypus features Grover Mini Rotomatic six-in-line tuning machines in favor of traditional banjo-style that were seen on other Firebirds.

Tonally, this Firebird Platypus comes together with two Gibson Firebird Mini Humbucker pickups. These two humbuckers play with brightness and clarity with great tone for heat and breakup. In short, there's a world of classic, vintage-inspired sounds ready with this Platypus ready to go at any moment. These humbuckers' playability is enhanced with the addition of an aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece. Grounding strings to the offset body solidly and ensuring an excellent transfer of energy, these hardware pieces are an exceptional addition to the Platypus formula. Wrapping it all up, this Gibson offset travels with an included hardshell case.

As one of Gibson's finest feathered friends, the Firebird is a classic offset among classic offsets. Celebrating an iconic detour in its lineage, the Firebird Platypus is an exceptional model for anyone to fall head over beak for.
