Fender Custom Shop '59 Stratocaster HSS Relic Electric Guitar, Burgundy Mist Metallic
Feast your eyes on this Fender Custom Shop '59 Stratocaster HSS Relic, Burgundy Mist Metallic wonder! Coming straight from Fender Custom Shop in Corona, California, this limited-edition build isn't your typical Strat. Instead, this Strat features a handful of spec changes and twists that offer a truly one of a kind visual, sonic, and playing experience. Let's take a closer look.
Starting off, this Stratocaster gets its iconic double-cutaway 1960 Strat silhouette and sonic voice from a 2-piece off-center alder body that was sorted for weight. A fine cut, this one clocks in at only 7 lb 10.3 oz. A closer look at the body reveals a button plug in place of a tone control. In this HSS configuration, the pickguard is loaded with a Seymour Duncan SH-1 in the bridge position and Hand-wound Fat '60s Strat pickups in the neck and middle positions for a simpler layout. The electronics are wired up in Postmodern Strat standards with 250K 10% taper split pots.
In traditional Fender fashion, the neck is attached to the body by 4-bolts and a vintage-style serial number neck plate. It's neck is constructed from quartersawn AA flame maple with a unfinished relic back for easy playing. The neck features a custom dimension 11/56 off-center "V" neck profile that fills the hand nicely. The neck is topped with a 9 millimeter thick AAA flat lam slab of medium tinted rosewood. The neck is accented by front facing vintage dot position markers and is crowned with 21 medium jumbo frets. The fingerboard sports a compound radius; a rounder 7.25-inch by the first fret and a flatter 9.5-inch by the 12th, making for comfy fretting in the first few positions and easier leads higher up.
No Strat is complete without quality hardware. Custom Shop has outfitted this one with some of the best. Strings are loaded through the vintage-style tremolo bridge, rest on the bone nut, and are strung to pitch with the vintage-style tuning machines. The entire body, neck, and hardware/parts have received a Relic treatment, offering a well-played in feel and visual indicator of a well-loved instrument.
